Building Software That Handles Real-World Complexity
Intellegens joined as a long-term development partner to expand and strengthen the LOBOS platform. This wasn’t a short engagement. Over five years, we worked closely with the client to develop new features, improve performance, and ensure reliability in a highly demanding domain.
The challenge wasn’t just building features - it was ensuring the system could handle:
- Large-scale mine models
- Complex optimization problems
- Real-world operational constraints
Turning Data into Actionable Optimization
At the core of LOBOS is the ability to transform operational data into optimized production strategies.
The platform integrates with the Gurobi solver, enabling advanced mathematical optimization across mining scenarios. This allows users to evaluate trade-offs, simulate outcomes, and identify the most efficient way to allocate resources.
For stakeholders, this means better decisions around:
- Production planning
- Resource utilization
- Long-term operational strategy
Making Complex Systems Usable
Complex software often fails because it’s hard to use. We addressed this by combining powerful backend capabilities with a clear, structured user interface built using DevExpress components.
At the same time, we implemented 3D visualization of mining operations using SlimDX, allowing users to explore models and understand spatial relationships directly.
This combination of optimization and visualization helped turn abstract data into practical, usable insights.
Ensuring Stability Over Long-Term Development
Systems like LOBOS evolve continuously. New requirements emerge, models grow more complex, and performance demands increase.
Over the course of the collaboration, we focused on:
- Maintaining clean, modular architecture
- Ensuring consistent performance under increasing load
- Supporting safe addition of new features without regressions
This reduced long-term risk and ensured the platform remained stable and predictable, even as complexity increased.
A True Engineering Partnership
Unlike short-term projects, this collaboration required deep domain understanding and ongoing alignment. Our team worked as an extension of Minesmith’s engineering effort, contributing both implementation and architectural thinking.
This approach allowed faster iteration while maintaining high technical standards, which is critical in systems where errors can have significant operational and financial consequences.
